What is there to do in Winter Park, Colorado during the shoulder season
before the ski area opens? There are so
many things, it’s hard to put them all down in a short blog. Not to mention, I am not sure as a bona fide
local of this incredible Rocky Mountain community that I’m allowed to disclose
some of our best kept secrets! But here
goes.
The first thing that you should remember when traveling through
Colorado is that September may very well be the most amazing, beautiful month
of any in the Rocky Mountains. I know,
you can’t strap your skiis on and go shushing down the mountain. But you can continue to mountain bike through
this month, with the Aspen trees waving their golden yellow leaves at you as
you go by.
There are several areas in
the mountains that have natural hot springs, such as Hot Sulphur Springs, the
county seat for Grand County, Colorado.
With a slight nip of chilly air around you while you sit in the steaming
water of those natural springs, there just isn’t anything better.
Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park during the fall months is
spectacular. There is no snow on the
ground as yet and with the Fall colors, the vistas are amazing. The Winter Park Resort keeps its Zephyr lift
running for weekend visitors, with the alpine slide and downhill mountain
biking being the main attraction. All of
our local restaurants and shops are still open and with the weather staying
beautiful through the month, it’s well worth the trip. It might be a good idea to head out to the
Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, Colorado for a trail ride, zip lining or even
some paddle board yoga. And dare I
mention that the fly fishing in our many rivers in Grand County is fantastic?
So yes, the hot days of July and August may be behind us for now but the
upcoming beauty of Autumn in the Rocky Mountains is a site to behold. Come on up and visit us!
