From world-class skiing at Winter Park Resort in the winter months to hiking and mountain biking in the summer, it’s always the right time to visit Colorado’s favorite playground.

While the list is surely endless, we’ve compiled five must-do activities and attractions for your next Grand County getaway:

Skiing

Each winter, visitors from all over the world flock to Winter Park Resort to experience a truly authentic Colorado skiing experience. With over 3,000 skiable acres spread across seven distinct territories, Winter Park Resort is sure to have something for every type of skier or rider. But Winter Park isn’t the only place to get your skiing fix in Grand County. Granby Ranch, located just a short drive up Highway 40, provides a smaller-scaled ski experience perfect for individuals or families just jumping into the sport. But with multiple terrain parks and even night skiing, Granby Ranch is still a popular spot with locals and diehards alike.

But maybe downhill skiing and snowboarding isn’t quite your cup of tea. No worries – Grand County is also home to countless cross-country skiing opportunities as well. From managed areas like Devil’s Thumb Ranch and Snow Mountain Ranch to community trails at Grand Park and Rendezvous, there are plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the surrounding winter wonderland.

Biking

There’s a reason why Winter Park and the surrounding Fraser Valley has claimed the title of Mountain Bike Capital USA. With over 600 miles of marked bike trails spread throughout Grand County, and the inclusion of two separate downhill bike parks at Winter Park Resort and Granby Ranch, it truly is a cyclist’s paradise. Whether you’re a veteran mountain biker, or just someone looking to hop back on the saddle, Grand County is sure to have the bike and the trail to suit your needs. Maybe you just want to cruise around town and take in the scenery? Rent a cruiser from one of our friendly, local bike shops like Epic Mountain Sports and take a ride along the Fraser River Trail. Looking for more of a heart-pumping adrenaline rush? Check out Winter Park Resort’s Trestle Bike Park. Visiting in the winter, but still want to go for a spin? Hop on a fat bike and take a cruise around town. Whatever bike, whatever trail, and whatever season, you’re sure to have a grand time!

Hiking

Let’s be honest – you can’t come to the mountains and not go for a hike, right? Right. Lucky for you, it’s always a good time for a hike in Grand County, Colorado. In the summer months, be sure to check out popular trails such as Devil’s Thumb or Byers Peak, where you can take in the beauty of the Fraser Valley below while being surrounded by fields of wildflowers and wildlife. Just be sure to keep a safe distance if you encounter one of our moose friends! In the fall, you won’t want to miss out on the aspens’ grand finale – the bright orange hues signal the coming of winter and make for picturesque hikes in the crisp, mountain air. When winter rolls around, pick up a pair of snowshoes and take a stroll along the Jim Creek Trail – you’ll be surrounded by views of the Continental Divide that are sure to take your breath away.

While we here in Grand County certainly love our outdoor adventures, we also appreciate our relaxation time. Whether it’s taking a dip in a hot tub, or catching the latest flick on the big screen, there’s a method of unwinding for everyone. Here with the whole family? Check out the Grand Park Community Recreation Center in Fraser, where you can relax in the sauna, steam room or hot tub while the kids enjoy taking laps on the 150-foot water slide. Don’t want to get wet? Play a couple rounds of bowling or check out that popular new movie at The Foundry Cinema and Bowl in downtown Winter Park. But for a true Grand County relaxation experience, be sure to head to the Hot Sulphur Hot Springs where you can enjoy a dip in one of the mineral pools or even indulge in a deep tissue massage. Hoping to get in some Yoga? Devils Thumb Ranch & Spa has classes with a view! As a perk, when you pay for a yoga class or even a massage, you get free access to their sauna and hot tub!

Shopping and Dining

What’s a visit to Grand County without indulging in some retail therapy and local cuisine? With a plethora of shops and restaurants throughout the County, you’re sure to find something to appease anyone’s wallet and appetite. In downtown Winter Park, be sure to take a stroll around Cooper Creek Square – it’s complete with seven different restaurants and eleven different shopping experiences, meaning the whole family can find something to enjoy. And for a truly western atmosphere, don’t miss out on making a trip to downtown Grand Lake. With a boardwalk that stretches along Main Street, you’ll be greeted with over 60 different shops, restaurants, and bars – all within a stone’s throw of the water.
