I know these days are limited – the crisp cold mornings and the sunny and warm days. The trails are still dry and there’s still a few yellow leaves on the Aspens. I know from experience that it can change at any time. A lot of folks up here Can. Not. Wait. For snow! I certainly can. And, it’s with all of this in mind that each day I put on my running shoes, wait for it to warm up at least 20 degrees and explore a trail for my mid-day trail run. I run my tail off and try and make it count considering these days are numbered. Soon I’ll be putting on those yak tracks so I don’t slip and fall on the icy roads.
Headwaters Trail Alliance just completed a new Twin Bridges trail off Vasquez Road in Winter Park a few weeks ago. They’re even working on expanding it on the north side of the dirt road as well so that it will connect to the Vasquez Wilderness area and the trails of D4, D3 and more. The portion just completed is super fun on a mountain bike. The kids and I rode it the first few days it was open and there were a lot of giggles and “re-dos” to make it over a berm or a rock feature. We did laps! I ran it yesterday and although I wasn’t laughing heading up the hill this time, I did have the biggest smile on my face as I know these days are numbered until we dry out in June (if we’re lucky!). From there, you can either connect to Blue Sky and down the water board road to town, or head up the other way and connect to Sunset Pink and the Leland Creek trails. Whatever you choose, I encourage you to get out soon and explore all we have to offer, especially if it’s a new trail in the area. There’s still time! We’ll be skiing soon enough…
