It is officially mud season in Winter Park, CO. The ski area closed last weekend, many seasonal employees have moved on and a lot of businesses close for a week or two. But, now is a nice time as a local to get to know your bartender or waiter at your favorite restaurant.
And many restaurants do specials during Mud Season, like the Crooked Creek in Fraser - they are doing a 2 for $22 special (includes an app, salad bar trip, 2 entrees and a dessert from their special menu). I plan on taking advantage of that deal sometime this week! And Casa Mexico is having a Cinco de Mayo party next Monday - mariachi band!
It is also a good time to swap out your ski gear for bike gear. I usually put storage wax on my skis and snowboard for the summer and pack all my ski equipment into a bag so that it is all ready to go next fall and I am not struggling to find my goggles. Then I get my bike down and dust it off from the long winter, then ask my husband what needs to be done (he knows best). If you don't have a husband like mine, take your to a bike shop and ask them to tune it up for you - it is worth it!
Have some fun this mud season and just because the ski area is closed, doesn't mean the rest of us have to shut down too - get out there.... Granby Ranch trails and the phases should be drying out soon!
