Spring is in the air around Winter Park, and while there is still plenty of great skiing – and hopefully a few more powder days – to be had, our local community can’t help but start looking ahead to those long, fun-filled summer days that lie ahead. From taking advantage to the 600-plus miles of mountain bike trails, to countless music festivals and days spent basking beneath the beautiful Rocky Mountains, there are endless reasons why so many people have come to the Fraser Valley for the winters, only to stay because of the summers.
Perhaps what has most of the local community excited is the recent announcement of a brand new music festival set to take place in Winter Park this upcoming June. The Switchback Music Festival, which will take place on June 16 and 17, will feature prolific reggae musician Ziggy Marley, who, aside from being the son of legendary Bob Marley, is also a six-time Grammy Award winning artist. SOJA, a widely popular reggae band based out of the Washington D.C. area will also highlight the event, with more supporting acts to be announced in the near future.
And speaking of those signature events, Winter Park will once again host a number of staple music festivals that our locals and visitors have come to love, including the annual Blues From the Top Festival, which will take place from June 22 to 24, in addition to the 36thAnnual Winter Park Jazz Festival, which will occur from July 21 to 22. High-Note Thursdays, a popular concert series that occurs each week starting in June, will also take place each Thursday from June 14 to August 23, helping to kick off those fun-filled summer weekends yet again in 2018.
But music isn’t the only thing to be excited about come the summer months. After all, Winter Park isn’t known as Colorado’s Favorite Playground for nothing, so of course we have plenty of exciting recreational events that just cannot be missed.
At the top of the list is the annual Mountain Bike Capital™ weekend, which features numerous clinics, riding sessions, pro athlete meet and greets and more for cyclists of all ages and ability levels. The exact weekend lineup has yet to be officially announced, but you can bet you won’t want to miss out on visiting Winter Park – appropriately known as Mountain Bike Capital USA – when this exciting event rolls into town.
If mountain biking isn’t exactly your thing (or maybe not just quite yet), there are also plenty of other exciting events returning to Winter Park for summer 2018. From beer festivals to fitness in the park, to the 3rd Annual Tacos and Tequila event, there truly is something for everybody come the summer months. Whether it’s your first time in Winter Park, or you’ve been calling it home for years, we promise that you’ll find something to keep you coming back again and again, whether it’s with a couple of close friends or even the whole family.
In the meantime, enjoy those last few weeks of spring skiing at Winter Park Resort while you start planning your summer adventures for the months ahead - the warm weather will surely be here before you know it!
