Backcountry skiing is becoming increasingly popular as skiers and riders venture out of bounds on a quest for powder and adventure. There is some very accessible terrain on Berthoud Pass near Winter Park. Although it can be an incredible adventure, there is always a risk of avalanche hazard.
Powder Addiction, Winter Park’s snow cat skiing operation, is offering Avalanche Education classes this year. Back Country enthusiasts will learn how to use their safety gear, (beacons, shovels and probes). Other topics covered include safe route finding, snow stability assessment and rescue scenarios.
Check out their website for more information:

If you don’t see a class or dates that work for you or your schedule contact Jamie at Powder Addiction. With a minimum number of people he can customize a class to meet your needs.
