Over the past few years the Tiny House Movement has become quite popular as it advocates for a simple lifestyle in a tiny home, one which many Coloradians appreciate! The idea around this movement is fantastic as it promotes a minimalist lifestyle and not having more than you need.
Typically tiny homes are 100-400 square feet and can stand alone or on wheels, but Grand County requires homes to be a minimum of 400 square feet and the houses must be on a foundation, or if zoned mobile home- skirted, hooked up to utilities and no wheels.
The county’s zoning regulations provide obstacles with placing a Tiny Home in Grand County as many areas prohibit them. The process of purchasing the home can be quite simple, as you can easily go online and customize your own tiny home and have it shipped to you, but the problem is finding a subdivision that will allow the home.
Tiny homes can cost anywhere from $5,000-$150,000+. According to Rocky Mountain Tiny Houses, they have built small simple shells for as little as $10,000, but have also built larger, top of the line houses for $150k+.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the county or me for more information!
