Winter Park Resort – Opening Day
What to Expect
As winter approaches, everyone is wondering what the ski season will look like this year. Our 2019/2020 season was abruptly cut short in March due to COVID-19. Locals and snow enthusiasts alike nervously wait for news regarding what the 2020/2021 ski season.
Luckily Colorado released COVID-19 guidelines for the state ski areas. Parties in lift lines will be required to stay 6 feet apart in all directions, gondolas and lift chairs will limit their capacity, and resorts will offer trip cancellation policies that will alleviate the pressure on customers if they are sick.
It is important that the guests do their part in following the rules in order to help keep the resorts open. Aspen’s Skico mentioned in a statement, “Our employees, guests and whole community will need to work together to support a safe ski season this year.”
We will see lift lines be re-arranged and longer lift lines, in order to help maximize spacing between guests. Guest will be required to wear masks at all times. Gondola windows will remain open no matter what the conditions are. Distancing will be required at restaurants, guest services and bathrooms. At this time, Winter Park and Steamboat are not requiring reservations, but that could change. Alterra resorts are limiting resort visitation levels to avoid overcrowding and will be prioritizing season pass holders. Walk up window sales will be eliminated, and the sale of most undated lift ticket products will be discontinued until further notice.
Colorado Ski Country USA association, urges guests to Know Before You Go… They urge you to “Visit ski area websites, social media channels or coloradoski.com to understand the most up-to-date COVID-related polices and procedures as well as expectations for guest responsibilities during a visit to a ski area,”.
As us locals in Grand County patiently wait for the Winter Park Ski Resort to open, it is important that we are all educating ourselves on the safety guidelines so that we can keep the resorts open!
