IF it does rain in Winter Park, it likely won't last long. You may have heard that if you don't like the weather in Colorado, wait 10 minutes and it will change. It's rare that the mountains experience all day drizzly weather that can leave other areas dreary and downright soggy. However, if it happens to rain during your visit to Winter Park - fear not! There are plenty of activities to enjoy.
Winter Park's only bowling alley and movie theater! Watch a movie, go bowling, play shuffleboard, or stop in to enjoy their delicious wood fired pizza, wings, and a beverage.
2. Grand Park Community Recreation Center
Our local Rec Center boasts plenty of rainy day activities for the whole family, including a climbing wall, fitness classes, lap pool, lazy river, water slide and more!
At Cozens Museum you can enjoy exhibits including Native American artifacts, Pioneers, Miners, Loggers, and the beginnings of Colorado's Ski industry. The museum is conveniently located on Highway 40 between Fraser and Winter Park.
4. Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain Park offers more than just hiking trails! Stop at Kawuneeche Visitor Center, located just inside the park's western entrance near Grand Lake. Here you can watch park films, find information, and browse the bookstore.
Trail Ridge Road is a beautiful option, rain or shine. Drive all the way up to the Alpine Visitors Center, the highest elevation visitor center in all of the National Parks! At 11,796 feet, you'll find a ranger station with daily information programs, gift shop, restaurant, and even a little snow all summer long! Keep an eye out for marmots, moose, elk, bears, and other wildlife along the drive. Wild animals don't mind the rain.
5. Eat, Drink, and Be Merry!
Downtown Winter Park has many restaurants with various cuisines and brew pubs so close together you'll hardly get wet walking from one to the other. After a few stops, you may not even notice it's raining at all! Or, plan your route through Winter Park and hop aboard The Lift bus to check out destinations in Fraser and Winter Park. Be sure to use the RideHop app (available on iPhone or Android (code lift) to see exactly when the bus will arrive at your stop!
