Pitch a Tent in Grand County


From Winter Park to the Western edges of Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand County is surrounded by Arapahoe National Forest, which provides some great options for camping in our area.  There are a number of National Forest Camp Grounds that are first come first served and a few that do take reservations.  These areas fill up quickly in the heat of the Summer

Most Camp Grounds are open from June to September.  Below is a list of camp grounds that are in order of their proximity to Winter Park.  For infomation about camp grounds, local fire bans, etc., contact  Arapaho National Forest Sulphur Ranger District at 970-887-4100 

So, no more excuses, pack up the kids, the tent, and all of your favorite recreational toys, and get up to Grand County to enjoy the Great Outdoors!!

Reservations Accepted:

  • Willow Creek Campground: Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA), 6 miles NW of Granby on Hwy 34, then 3 miles on Willow Creek Reservoir Road. $17. Reservations.
  • Stillwater Campground: Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA), 8 miles NW of Granby on Hwy 34 on west side of Lake Granby. $20-$25.Reservations.
  • Green Ridge Campground: Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA), 12 miles NW of Granby on Hwy 34, then 2 miles on Shadow Mountain Lake Road. $17. Reservations.
  • Arapaho Bay Campground: Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA), 6 miles NW of Granby on Hwy 34, then 9 miles on Arapaho Bay Road, along southeast section of Lake Granby. $18. Reservations.
  • South Fork Campgrond: Williams Fork Valley, 25 miles south of Parshall on Hwy 40, then off of CR 3 on FR 138. Horses allowed. $13. Reservations.

First Come, First Served:

  • Idlewild Campground: 1 mile south of Winter Park on Hwy 40. $14.
  • Robbers Roost Campground: 5 miles south of Winter Park on Hwy 40, at base of Berthoud Pass. $14.
  • St. Louis Creek Campground: 4 miles SW of Fraser on St. Louis Creek Road. $14.
  • Sawmill Gulch Campground: 2 miles from Granby on Hwy 40, then north on Hwy 125 for 9 miles. $12.
  • Sunset Point Campground: Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA), 6 miles NW of Granby on Hwy 34, then 1.5 miles east on CR 6/FR 125 along south shore of Lake Granby. $20.
  • Denver Creek Campground: 16 miles NW of Granby on Hwy 125. $15.
  • Horseshoe Campground: Williams Fork Valley, 20 miles south of Parshall on Hwy 40, then turn onto CR 3 and then FR 139. $12.
  • Sugarloaf Campground: Williams Fork Valley, 25 miles south of Parshall on Hwy 40, then turn onto CR 3 and then FR 138. $13.
  • Bull Mountain Campground: From Granby drive on Hwy 34 to CR 4, then left on FR 123 for 4.5 miles, then 2 miles on FR 835.2. Primitive. Free.

Group Campgrounds:

  • Midland Group Campground: 4.5 miles south of Winter Park on east side of Hwy 40. $75. Reservations: call (970) 726-1132 or (970) 726-0889.
  • Cutthroat Bay Group Campground: Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA), 8 miles NW of Granby on Hwy 34, east on CR 46 for 1/4 miles. $85. Reservations.

Dispersed Camping:

Dispersed/Primitive Camping is allowed at the following trailheads: Buchanan Pass, Devils Thumb, Junco Lake, Keyser Ridge, Kinney Creek, Lake Evelyn, Meadow Creek Reservoir Fishing Site, North Supply, and South Fork.
